I've been fishing since I could hold a rod. I have fished at every opportunity, from the world-class waters of the Truckee River to the drainage ditches outside my childhood home. Ever since I learned that Fishing Guide was a vocation, that's been my goal.
I have enjoyed sharing my love of angling with friends and family for several years. I love watching faces light up during a first catch or learning to cast, and I really love that all of it happens outdoors. I completed my first guide school at age 17 and haven't looked back.
I've worked at two small, family-run lodges and understand the work involved to keep guests comfortable and cared-for, and I have experience with all kinds of maintenance work from plumbing to roofing. I've even served as cook for a week in a pinch.
I'm excited to visit new places and make new friends as I share the joy of angling and the enjoyment of the outdoors with clients.
I'll fish for anything that swims,* but my favorites so far are arctic char, redfish, and brook trout. Top on my wishlist are giant trevally, milkfish, and bonefish.
*I've been known to "fish" for cats, too.
I love fly fishing but I can be happy with any rod in my hand. I am proficient in many styles, starting with fly fishing (nymphing, indicator, streamer, dry fly) and including jigging, trolling, top-lining, down-rigging, casting, Tenkara, and hand line. Primary experience with bass, bluegill, bowfin, cichlids, and catfish in Texas, and trout (rainbow, cutthroat, brown, brook, golden, mackinaw), Kokanee, crappie, and more bass in California, not to mention all five species of salmon in Alaska, plus Dolly Varden, arctic grayling, and arctic char.
I'll stand on shore, on docks, or wade, but I particularly love boats—not to mention kayaks, paddleboards, float tubes, and drifting. I have my 6-pack captain's license and am preparing for my 100-Ton Master. I've spent a summer in Alaska driving a 17' outboard with clients on large lakes and rivers, several seasons driving a 20’ aluminum fishing boat on Lake Tahoe; extensive experience with 14’ outboard in tight canals and on open water (often rough) on Tahoe; lots of time following depth contours for down-rigging; years of kayak and canoe in close quarters and open water.
